Hey everyone! I hope everyone is having a swell weekend? I have so much school work :'( This final year is not small work o! God is seeing me through anyways.
So today I will be sharing how I grew my edges. I honestly didn't know my edges were that bad before until i did a picture comparison. Personally, I don't remember ever having full thick edges. This is mostly because I always made braids, twists and other hairstyles that tugged on and weakened my edges. Even after I went natural,I did not pay any particular attention to the state of my edges until the middle of this year.
How did I grow my edges though?
First thing is, I prayed. This may sound ridiculous to some people but I honestly prayed about my edges. I simply told Him "Lord Jesus, help me edges".
Then, I started doing my part. I got me some Jamaican Black castor oil (extra dark) from kinky apothecary. I had been using regular JBCO previously with not much improvement so this time I bought the extra dark one since it is 'stronger'. I also added Cedarwood and Lavender essential oils to my castor oil. Both essential oils claim to help with hair growth (check my natural hair haul here). I tried to use this oil mix consistently: morning, afternoon, night, evening lol. Any time I remembered, I used the oil mix. Sometimes I did not use it for several days so it was not a routine practice but I tried to use it daily.
Next step was always sleeping with a satin bonnet or scarf. I tried my best never to got to bed without wearing a satin bonnet, whether it was just an afternoon nap. In fact, anytime my hair was going to be touching my pillow case, I wore my satin bonnet. This is because I did not want friction between my hair and the cotton pillowcase, the result of such friction is breakage (for more on the importance of a satin bonnet/scarf/pillowcase, click here).
Lastly, I only did protective styles that did not expose or strain my edges. This means, no tight braids or twists or any hairstyle that will tug on my edges or expose the ends of my hair. I stuck to crotchet braids, wigs and loose twists or natural d.i.y hairstyles. This generally helped keep my hair healthy but it really improved the state of my edges, making sure that they had freedom to grow.
So those are the few things that really helped me grow my edges over a relatively short period of time. I will continue documenting the growth and do an updated post if I change anything in my routine.
Feel free to leave your questions in the comment section.
See you in my next post, xoxo.
It is good for me to draw near to God
Psalm 73:28
I'm currently trying this ...but I'm using JBCO lavender, not extra dark. Pray it works tho. Nice work here
