Review: Taos Cosmetics Dolly Lana Eyeshadow Palette

Taos Cosmetics was one of those hip new-kid-on-the-block beauty brands that sprung up in the Nigerian beauty industry over 4 years ago. Now, the brand has grown to be a household name with products ranging from lipsticks, lip glosses, to setting powders, eyeshadow palettes and even skin enhancers (concealers). Today, I will be reviewing their Dolly Lana eyeshadow palette.

When this palette first launched, I was drooling over it. From the huge pans to the pretty packaging, it was a makeup addict's dream come true. So when I was gifted this palette late last year, I was over the moon with excitement and after several months of playing, I am ready to share my thoughts. I will be talking about this palette based on its packaging, pigmentation and cost.

Packaging

The palette comes in a cute white cardboard packaging encased in an identical cover with yellow and purple lines on it. The ingredients are listed at the back of the outer casing and this palette is apparently cruelty free, yay. The palette contains a total of 12 eyeshadows in huge pans; the first shade is a pressed glitter, the next four shades are shimmers, the two shades after that are matte with some specks of shimmer and the last 5 shades are true mattes. I do like the packaging but white is quite easy to stain if you are messy/clumsy so I wish the cardboard has a glossy finish that made it easy to clean.

Pigmentation

Now, I really like the way "Opuere" the pressed glitter shade swatches, it's unlike any pressed glitter I have ever felt. I haven't applied this on my eyes yet though. The shimmer shades in this palette are okay; they definitely need a sticky base to help them pop more and they don't really sparkle, they just have a nice sheen. What makes this palette amazing to me is the matte shades which is weird because matte eyeshadows are not easy to pull off. The brown and black shades have some specks of shimmer but it doesn't really show up on the skin. These shadows blend out beautifully and they don't have alot of fall out.

Cost

This palette costs 7500 naira which I believe is affordable especially given the size of the pans. This palette can last you forever tbh.

My final thoughts
I really like this palette. It's perfect for everyday use because it has simple colors for day time wear and some bright shades for when you wanna be more adventurous. I also love how this brand used indigenous names for this. The shades "Roli", "Oghogho", "Taje" and "Wofai" are absolutely gorgeous as blushes too, just be cautious when applying because they are very pigmented and if you are heavy handed, you can end up looking like a clown lol.
If the shimmers had more sparkle and the white packaging wasn't so prone to stain, this palette would get a 10/10; however it's so amazing anyways so I give it a 8/10. I definitely recommend it. Make sure you apply the tips I shared in a previous post on how to achieve a flawless eyeshadow look. You can also watch a video of me using this palette on my eyes and as blush on my Instagram feed.

Fun fact: The brand asked their audience to give unique names for the shades in this palette. Isn't that so cool?

You can purchase this palette at www.taoscosmetics.com or simply dm the brand on Instagram to know if they have a stockist near you. They also have a physical store where they sell their products and other beauty products. The store is located at 64B Fola Osibo Road, Lekki Phase One, beside Red & Black Mall, Lagos, Nigeria.

What Nigerian beauty brands are killing it right now? I wanna know who to start stalking on social media.

I hope you enjoyed my review. See you in my next post.
