Generally, I am not into who-is-marrying-who and least of all, British who-is-marrying-who. However when I heard that one of the British royals had decided to marry a woman with some melanin, my interest was piqued. As the wedding date (Saturday May 19th) draws nearer and I anticipate the array of fascinators that are sure to fascinate, I have decided to share what I have found out about the wedding.
Who are the people getting married sef?
Prince Harry, grandson to the Queen and the son of the Prince of Wales and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, is marrying Hollywood actress Meghan Markle. Meghan is a star in the hit legal drama, Suits. Harry is….just a Royal.
How did Harry and Meghan meet?
Harry and Markle first made each other's acquaintance on a blind date in early July, 2016. "We were introduced actually by a mutual friend," Harry revealed during the couple's first sit-down interview with the BBC following their engagement announcement.
One question, what are my friends doing?
How did the proposal happen?
The Prince popped the question when the couple was cooking roast chicken one evening. Yes, the Prince was cooking *take note boys*.
Where are the wedding day plans?
The ceremony will take place at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle at noon local time on 19th May. After the wedding, a carriage procession will be done through the town of Windsor to a luncheon with 600 guests hosted by the Queen at St George’s hall. After that, there will be a second reception at Frogmore House with 200 of their closest friends hosted by the Prince’s father. So basically, they get 2 receptions. Definitely something only Royals can afford.
Thinking of going off to London to catch a glimpse of the Royal wedding and some other great sights? Get great deals from Virgin Atlantic.
Why is the wedding on a Saturday?
I am sure you are wondering why this is even a question. Apparently British Royal weddings are usually on a weekday so it is declared a public holiday and people can watch the wedding from home. However, just like most Africans, Aunty Meghan is gonna be tying the knot on a Saturday.
Football or Royal Wedding?
Apparently, the wedding is on the same day as the FA finals so we all know what the soccer fans will be watching.
Aunty Meghan or Princess Meghan?
Only women who are born into the royal family are referred to as "Princess" before their first name in England. So, Meghan will be officially called Her Royal Highness Princess Henry of Wales (funny name tbh) except the Queen gives Harry a Dukedom and then she will be called Duchess Meghan.
But she gets to wear a tiara?
Yes definitely. Princess Diana left her jewelleries to her sons and their wives so Meghan gets to wear some royal jewels on her big day and for the rest of her life.
Who is in the bridal train?
Rumour has it that Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the children of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may act as page boy and little bride. Meghan has not disclosed her bridesmaids yet but the Duke of Cambridge is definitely going to be his little brother’s best man.
Who will be attending the wedding?
Obviously, the royals will be there: the Queen and her husband, Prince Williams and his wife, Princess Diana’s siblings, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their kids. Meghan’s parents and friends will be in attendance too, for example, Priyanka Chopra. Among Prince Harry's friends, Owen Inskip, Guy Pelly and Lizzy Wilson, and Arthur Landon are expected to be in attendance. Prince Seeiso of Lesotho and his wife are also going to be in attendance. 15 year old Faith Dickson who received the Diana award 2017 for her charity ‘Cuddles for Cancer’ will also be in attendance. Other celebrities that have been slated by the press to attend include Sir Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Cara Delevingne, David and Victoria Beckham, and Serena Williams.
Who is not invited?
Donald Trump!
Lol, jokes aside, the couple have decided that no political leaders have been invited to the wedding so we won’t be seeing Daddy Barack either *sobs*.
Can we send them wedding gifts?
Yes actually, the couple has decided to forgo traditional wedding gifts. They urge that donations be made to several charities instead. Some of these charities include CHIVA (Children's HIV Association), Crisis (a UK-based homelessness charity), the Myna Mahila Foundation (a charity that supports women in Mumbai's urban slums), and Scotty's Little Soldiers (which helps bereaved Armed Forces children).
So sweet of them.
Where is the royal honeymoon?
No one knows yet but it is rumoured that it will be in Botswana where the couple had one of their first dates.
Sigh, I need to start travelling to a different continent for a date. I will check out cheap flights from Lagos to London.
So that’s all I have gathered about this royal wedding. I love that it is breaking the norm for the British royal family in some ways,
See you in my next post. Xoxo.
